Kaspar Schläpfer

Kaspar Schläpfer (born April 22, 1951 in Bürglen ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ). He was from January 2003 to May 31, 2016 Councilor in the Canton of Thurgau , where he led the Department of the Interior and national economy.

Personal

Kaspar Schläpfer is the son of Albert and Elsbeth Schläpfer and grew up in Bürglen and Weinfelden . He has been married to Annegrethe Schläpfer-Wilhelmsen since 1979 and has three grown children. Schläpfer lives in Frauenfeld and is a citizen of Rehetobel . His hobbies include reading and sports (cross-country skiing, jogging and netball).

education and profession

Kaspar Schläpfer attended primary and secondary school in Weinfelden. Schläpfer obtained the Matura type B at the canton school in Frauenfeld. He then completed a law degree at the University of Zurich , which he obtained with a Dr. iur. completed. He then studied in Dallas and graduated with a Master of Laws. After his studies, Kaspar Schläpfer worked as a lawyer at Lenz & Staehelin, one of the largest Swiss law firms, from 1980 to 1986. From 1986 until his election to the government council in 2002 he worked as an independent lawyer in Frauenfeld.

Political activity

Kaspar Schläpfer's political career began in 1983 when he joined the FDP Frauenfeld. In 1993 he was elected to the municipal council of the city of Frauenfeld, where he was parliamentary group president of the SVP / FDP parliamentary group. In 2002 he was nominated by his party to succeed former government councilor Hermann Lei and was also elected by the Thurgau people. He then took up his post on January 1, 2003 and became head of the Department of Home Affairs and Economics. Schläpfer was also President of the Government in 2006/07 and 2011/12. During his tenure, he was entrusted with the Hefenhofen case .
