The Disaster Bay is a bay on Lake Zug in the city of Zug . Its name is derived from the suburban disaster in which the banks of Lake Zug collapsed on July 5, 1887 and flooded houses.

location

The disaster bay is about 150 meters long and extends about 70 meters into the country. It encompasses the area of the suburban bridge, which is flanked to the west by the Zug landing stage for the Zugersee Schifffahrt shipping company and to the east by the «Rigiecke». It is part of the Zuger Vorstadt promenade . Maria Bettina Cogliatti designed the 112 meter long bay front in 1998 with the color field painting trompe-l'œil . Behind the bay is Rigiplatz , whose artistic conception by Anton Egloff (1995) is also reminiscent of the suburban disaster .

The disaster bay is a popular venue, for example for the annual Zug Lake Festival or in 2018 for the UN campaign “Orange the World” .
