International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women , known as "International Day Against Violence Against Women" ( English International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women ), an on Nov. 25 barred a year of remembrance and action to combat discrimination and violence every form towards women and girls.
The color orange is used as the identification color and "Orange the World" as the slogan.
history
Since 1981 human rights organizations such as B. Terre des Femmes every year on November 25th, events at which the observance of human rights towards women and girls is discussed. Their aim is the general strengthening of women's rights . Here are especially issues such as forced prostitution , sexual abuse , sex tourism , rape , female genital mutilation , domestic violence , forced marriage , prenatal sex selection, female poverty , femicide , etc. are discussed. In addition, programs should be supported that expressly advocate equality for women; for example in the area of inheritance law , education , private property , active and passive voting rights , creditworthiness , legal capacity , access to justice and the visualization of unpaid work.
The background to the initiation of the day of action was the Mirabal case. The Mirabal sisters , members of the Movimiento Revolucionario 14 de Junio, were kidnapped in 1960, after several previous arrests, in the Dominican Republic by members of the military of the then dictator Rafael Trujillo and finally murdered. In 1981, at a meeting of Latin American and Caribbean feminists , November 25th was proclaimed to commemorate victims of violence against women (Dia Internacional de la No Violencia Contra la Mujer) and in 1999 it was officially taken up by the United Nations (Resolution 54/134).

The German federal government regularly commissions studies to determine the specific figures. In 2018, more than 114,000 women were victims of violence in Germany. Every day there was one attempt at killing. Every hour in Germany a woman was the victim of dangerous physical harm. The number of cases received by the Federal Criminal Police Office is increasing steadily. There are now numerous cases of reported online violence.
