Kate Thompson (writer, 1956)
Kate Thompson (born July 23, 1956 in Halifax , West Yorkshire ) is a British writer .
Life
Kate Thompson's parents are both historians involved in anti-war movements. She is the youngest of 3 children. Even as a teenager, she loved writing stories, poems and lyrics. When she was 8 years old her parents moved her to Leamington Spa . Seven years later they moved to Worcester . During her vacation in Wales , she developed a love for the mountains, hiking and thinking.
After finishing school, she trained racehorses in the USA and later began studying law in London , which she did not satisfy and therefore did not complete. She wanted to discover the world and herself and made several extensive trips through India . In 1981 she took up residence in the Republic of Ireland . In 1984 she moved with her partner Conor Minogue to Inagh in County Clare , Ireland , where soon afterwards their two daughters Cliodhna and Dearbhla were born.
She spent the next 10 years as a housewife, with her vegetable garden and her family. In 1992, Knute Skinner published a collection of Kate Thompson's poems in his magazine The Signpost Press in the USA , which she titled There Is Something . Around 1993 she began writing novels for children and adults. In 1994 she moved to Kinvara , South County Galway , Ireland.
Switcher was her first novel, published by Aran Press in Ireland in 1994. When the publisher went bankrupt , Kate Thompson had no publisher for several years. It wasn't until 1997 that Switcher and the two sequels were released again. Since then, Kate Thompson has written one novel every year until 2009. Her poems, novels and books for children and young people have received numerous awards.
Kate Thompson is a passionate fiddle player and restores old instruments in her workshop. She now lives in Yorkshire (Northern England).
