Katharina von Bora Church (Werkleitz)
The Katharina-von-Bora-Kirche is the Protestant church of the village Werkleitz in the town of Barby in Saxony-Anhalt .
The namesake is Katharina von Bora , the wife of the reformer Martin Luther .
Architecture and history
The church is of medieval origin and built from rubble stones . Around 1700 the nave was extended to the north. In the 19th century, the east wall was rebuilt with red brick. In the second half of the 19th century, a small roof turret was built on the transverse rectangular west tower .
The interior of the church is spanned by a flat ceiling. On the west side there is a gallery with a small organ prospect from the Baroque period . Most of the rest of the furnishings are from a renovation from the 1960s.
From 1912 to 1923 the theologian Albert Hosenthien was pastor at the church.
