Jacob Reich

Jacob Reich (also: Reichius ; * May 15, 1635 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † June 24, 1690 ibid) was a German rhetorician and poet.

Life

Reich studied at the University of Königsberg and the University of Jena . After earning a master's degree in philosophy, he became rector of the provincial school in Tilsit in 1665 . In 1667 he was appointed professor of rhetoric at the University of Königsberg. Here he developed an extraordinarily lively activity as a poet. In 1673 he bought a printing company in Königsberg.

During his time in Königsberg he also wrote comedies, which he had the students perform based on the model of Simon Dach . Here “A thoughtful comedy by the German and insurmountable Nestor etc.” (Königsberg 1683) and “Artistic speeches in which some plays are located” (Königsberg 1686) can be cited. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University and was elected rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semesters of 1674, 1682 and 1690 . He died in his last term of office.
