Catherine (born November 25, 1253 in the Palace of Westminster , † May 3, 1257 in Windsor Castle ) was an English princess from the House of Plantagenet . She was the youngest daughter of King Henry III. and from his wife Eleanor of Provence . The child was ailing, but her early death was deeply mourned by her parents. They had Catherine buried in a magnificent funeral in the newly built Westminster Abbey and an elaborate tomb erected for her. From this grave, the body was probably reburied after 1273 in a new grave made of Purbeck marble , which was later moved at least twice. The bones of her brothers Richard, John and Henry, who died young, and the bones of John , Henry , Alphonso , Berengaria and Joan, the young children of their brother Edward I , were also buried in the grave.
