Katharina Dobler

Katharina "Kathi" Dobler (born November 9, 1918 in Zell an der Pram ; † May 9, 2003 ibid) was an Austrian folklorist and folk culture activist.

Live and act

After attending the elementary school Zell an der Pram and the secondary school Grieskirchen , Katharina Dobler completed a commercial apprenticeship and worked as a saleswoman. From 1941 to 1945 she attended the workers' school in Linz , where she graduated. She then studied folklore, German literature and philosophy at the University of Graz and received her doctorate in 1950. phil. She wrote her dissertation on the dialect poet Anton Schosser .

Dobler then joined the state service as an office worker, where she then worked for the central catalog. In 1956, she transferred to the federal service and worked at the federal public education department (later the federal funding agency for adult education for Upper Austria), of which she became deputy director.

Dobler campaigned intensively for the preservation of homeland, dialect and monuments. So she founded and led the working group Heimatpflege, initiated the establishment of the regional association of gold hoods, headscarves and hat groups as well as other regional associations. From 1969 she founded educational centers for creative leisure activities. Thanks to their commitment, the planned demolition of Zell an der Pram Castle was prevented and it was renovated and opened in 1979 as a state education center. 1985 to 1991 she was chairwoman of the Stelzhamerbund .
