Katharine Merry
Katharine Merry (born September 21, 1974 in Dunchurch , Rugby ) is a British athlete and Olympic third party.
Already at the European Junior Championships in 1993 she won 5 medals, 2 of which were gold medals over 200 m and 4 × 100 m. At the British national championships she won gold over 200 m in 1998 and gold over 400 m in 1999 . At the 1999 World Athletics Championships , she was fifth over 400 m.
Her greatest achievement is winning the bronze medal over 400 m at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney behind Cathy Freeman (AUS) and Lorraine Graham (JAM). A year later she ran her best time with 49.59 s. However, injuries made it impossible to continue her career, so that she officially announced her retirement from the sport in 2005.
