Katharine O'Brien

Katharine O'Brien (born in Santa Barbara , California, 20th century ) is an American film director and screenwriter . She achieved international fame for her feature film Lost Transmissions .

life and career

Born in Santa Barbara, California, Katharine O'Brien first studied English at Wellesley College before working at Muse Film (Virgin Suicides, Buffalo 66) and as a television assistant for Kids in the Hall and Russo Brothers. After receiving her MFA in film directing from Columbia University's film program , she made various short films between 2008 and 2018, including the short film Doppelganger , directed in 2009 , which received the Special Jury Award in the Short Film category at the USA Film Festival .

In 2019 she finally took a seat in the director's chair for the feature film production Lost Transmissions after she had previously written the script . She directed the drama film with the cast Juno Temple , Simon Pegg and Rebecca Hazlewood . The cast was completed by Daisy Bishop , Jamie Harris and Alexandra Daddario . The film premiered on April 28, 2019 at the Tribeca Film Festival in the United States. The film received an Audience Award nomination at the American Film Festival and the Glasgow Film Festival.

Katharine O'Brien currently resides in Silverlake , Los Angeles , where she is actively involved in promoting art and film culture after serving on the boards of LACMA and the Cinefamily Foundation.
