Katherine Paterson

Katherine Paterson (born October 31, 1932 in Qing Jiang , China ) is an American writer .

life and work

Katherine Paterson was born to the Christian missionaries George and Mary Womeldorf. Between 1937 and 1950, she and her family had to move fifteen times due to various circumstances. The residence of the Womeldorfs changed several times between the United States and China.

From 1954 she studied English at King College in Bristol, Tennessee . She then worked as a missionary in Japan for four years. After returning to the USA in 1962, she married Rev. John Paterson, with whom she has four children, two of whom are adopted. In addition to English, Chinese and Japanese, Paterson also speaks Russian and has occasionally worked as a translator for her own books, among other things. Today she lives and works in Vermont.
