On Catholics meeting Dresden 1987 more than 100,000 faithful participated. The only Catholic meeting in the GDR took place from July 10th to 12th, 1987 in Dresden .

The motto of those days was: God's Power - Our Hope . With regard to Germany, the political implications renounced Berlin Conference of Bishops deliberately on the name Catholic , though you look at the West German and previous all-German Catholics days as a model -oriented. Even later, comparison was carefully avoided and the meeting was called a pilgrimage for no current reason .

Already in 1981 a pilgrimage took place in Erfurt on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the death of St. Elisabeth with around 65,000 participants.
