Catholic Adult Education Germany Federal Working Group

The Catholic Adult Education Germany Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft eV (KEB Germany) is an association of providers of Catholic adult education on a national level. The KEB member institutions address approx.3.5 million participants annually in 164,000 events (as of 2016) and together offer the largest non-municipal and the second largest general range of adult education , with a focus on personal, religious and cultural further education .

history

In 1957 the Catholic Federal Association for Adult Education was founded. V. (KBE) founded. In 2013 the name was changed to the current name.

activity

In the KEB u. a. the German dioceses are represented by 29 episcopal commissioners for adult education, as well as eleven Catholic state working groups for adult education , four Catholic associations at the federal level and seven other associations of Catholic organizations and institutions at the federal level.

The KEB represents the interests of its members vis-à-vis the federal government as well as vis-à-vis the German Bishops' Conference and other adult education providers at the federal level. It maintains individual commissions (e.g. on theology and education, digitization, demographic change, interculturality) and working groups (e.g. for political education or education in the big city ), organizes specialist conferences and supports national and European projects.

The KEB publishes the professional journal Adult Education EB in Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht Verlag . Quarterly magazine for theory and practice and the two book series EB special and EB book . There are also material services such as media service EB , information service for staff training , information service for theological adult education .

The conceptual basis of the work is the recommendations of the document Priorities of Church Responsibility in the Education Area of the Joint Würzburg Synod of the Dioceses of the Roman Catholic Church in Germany from 1975 and the educational principles of the so-called Hirschberg Declaration of the KBE from 1992.

The KEB is a member of the European Federation for Catholic Adult Education ( Féderation Européenne pour l'Éducation Catholique des Adultes , FEECA) based in Brussels .

The chairman of the board is the managing director of the Catholic Adult Education Rhineland-Palatinate - Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft eV, Elisabeth Vanderheiden. The Federal Managing Director is Andrea Heim.
