Hans Tietgens

Hans Tietgens (born May 17, 1922 in Langenberg ; † May 8, 2009 in Eschborn ) was a German adult educator.

Career

Hans Tietgens began studying history and literature at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1941 and was a soldier from 1942 to 1945. He then continued his studies with the subjects of German, history, psychology and philosophy at the University of Bonn until 1949. He received his doctorate in 1949 in modern literary studies with the subject "Possibility of an investigation of the shape of time, presented to Gottfried Keller's The People of Seldwyla ". During the subsequent social science studies in Hamburg, Hans Tietgens was already active as a course instructor at the adult education centers in Bonn and Hamburg.

From 1952 to 1955 he was federal secretary of the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) and from 1954 to 1955 he was a full-time employee at the Heimvolkshochschule Hustedt.

Before he took over the management of the pedagogical department of the German Adult Education Association (1960–1991), he was Pedagogical Director in the State Association of Adult Education Centers in Lower Saxony (1956–1957) and national tutor of the DVV youth lecturer program (1957–1963).

From 1979 to 1991, the head of German adult education was also an honorary professor at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Hans Tietgens was married to the teacher Eva Sens since 1954 and they had two children.
