Folkert Rickers

Folkert Rickers (born April 18, 1938 in Oldenburg , † January 6, 2011 ) was a German Protestant theologian , university teacher and author .

biography

After graduating from high school , Rickers studied Protestant theology from 1959 to 1964 at the Bethel University , the University of Zurich , the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg and the Georg-August University of Göttingen . In 1967 he received his doctorate as a Doctor theologiae at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. After the vicariate and ordination in 1972, he was appointed to the Academic Senior Councilor for Protestant Religious Education and Didactics at the Aachen Department of the Rhineland University of Education . After completing his habilitation there in 1978 , he was appointed professor of Protestant theology at RWTH Aachen University in 1982 .

In 1987 he was appointed professor at the chair for Protestant theology and religious education at the University of Duisburg , where he worked as a university professor until his retirement in 2003.

Rickers, who helped shape the concept of interreligious learning, also worked after his retirement as a researcher at the Institute for Protestant Theology at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and at the office for interreligious learning he co-founded there in 1996. His main research interests included, in particular, intercultural religious education and the history of religious education at the time of National Socialism . In his publications he dealt with personalities such as Hugo Rönck , Paul Schneider and Hermann Werdermann .
