Catholic Faith Information
The Catholic faith information (in short: KGI) was from 1960 to 2009 a job working as a registered association of German Catholic Bishops' Conference in the field of practical pastoral care and pastoral . She provided information about the Catholic faith, advised and accompanied people on their path of faith and in their religious search, initially through letter pastoral care. In the mid-1990s she moved her activities to the Internet and was ultimately entrusted with coordinating the pastoral Internet work of the Catholic Church in Germany . In Austria there is the Catholic Faith Information of the Archdiocese of Vienna .
Origin and tasks
The KGI was founded in 1960 by Pastor Ferdinand Krenzer from the Frankfurt Oratory. The foundation goes back to an idea of the former Limburg bishop Wilhelm Kempf , which he had originally met in England at the Catholic Inquiry Center.
After a short time she became the pastoral care office of the Catholic Church in Germany and since then has seen herself as a contact person for seekers and inquirers, for everyone for whom church and faith are worth a question.
Focus
Until recently, the focus of the information on faith was an introductory course in the Catholic faith consisting of 24 individual articles. This correspondence course , which was offered both by post and online, has been part of the KGI's core offering since 1960. The correspondence course was gradually updated and is still available today as a download from the Catholic Office for Missionary Pastoral or in book form.
Since the mid-nineties, one of the first institutions also active in online services, it began to build a "church on the information highway" with the domain www.autobahnkirche.de.
Most recently, the KGI focused more on the introduction to the Catholic faith and the offer of relevant information. The domain www.katholisch-haben.de was created for this purpose, and the website www.katechumenat.de for preparation for baptism or a new beginning in the Catholic faith.
resolution
On January 1, 2010 in Erfurt by taking German Bishops' Conference established Catholic Office for Missionary Pastoral in their work. In the course of this, the Catholic Faith Information (kgi) based in Frankfurt a. M. dissolved at the end of December 31, 2009.
