Location and description

The Catholic youth home is on the corner of Johannesstrasse and Josefstrasse behind the St. Josef Church . It bears the address Josefstraße 2 . The building is a two story brick building - building with gable roof . A staircase is built on the north side , which led to the former schoolmaster's apartments. This area now houses the Adolf Kolping room , which is used as a meeting room by the Kolping Society , the Christian trade unions , the Christian-Democratic workforce and other associations close to the church .

history

In 1839 the house was built as a one-story building with a classroom and a teacher's apartment . In 1875 there was an extension to a four-class school with two service apartments . In the course of this expansion, the former school was given its current appearance as a two-story brick building. In 1880 the founding meetings for the establishment of the parish of St. Josef took place in the building, which culminated in the construction of the Church of St. Joseph, a neo-Romanesque brick basilica . With the inauguration of today's Metzmacher School on March 15, 1914, the school was rededicated in today's youth home of the parish of St. Josef.
