Kathryn Smith

Kathryn Smith (* 1985 / 1986 in DeWitt , New York ) is an American football coach and the first female full-time coach in the National Football League (NFL). Most recently she was Special Teams Quality Control Coach at the Buffalo Bills .

NFL

Smith's NFL career began in 2003 with an internship with the New York Jets . In 2003 and 2004 she worked on the planning of games and other events of the jets before 2005 as an assistant in scouting of college Football- working players. She worked as a player manager from 2007 to 2013 before being named assistant coach to Head Coach Rex Ryan in 2014 . After the Jets fired Ryan and he was signed by the Buffalo Bills , he took Smith with him. In 2016, the Bills promoted her to Special Teams Quality Control Coach , which made her the first full-time coach in the NFL. The first female coach in the NFL was Jennifer Welter , who was hired by the Arizona Cardinals during the off-season in 2015 , but Welter was only hired temporarily and did not have a full-time position. After Sean McDermott took over the post of head coach at the Bills, Smith was fired.

Others

In 2007, Smith worked in administrative matters at St. John's University for the men's basketball team. She also graduated from the same university in 2007 with a degree in sports management .
