Sean McDermott (* 21st March 1974 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American coach in American football . He has been Head Coach of the Buffalo Bills since the 2017 season .

Career

From 1998 to January 2011, McDermott worked in various positions with the Philadelphia Eagles , most recently as Defensive Coordinator under Andy Reid . From 2011 to 2016, McDermott was Defensive Coordinator for the Carolina Panthers under Head Coach Ron Rivera . With the Panthers, he reached in the 2015 season to the Super Bowl 50 , the but the Denver Broncos won 24:10.

McDermott has been Head Coach of the Buffalo Bills since January 2017. In its first season, the Bills reached the play-offs for the first time in 18 years with 9 wins and 7 losses and thus ended the longest time in which a team in the four major North American leagues did not reach the play-offs. In the wildcard game, the Bills lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 3:10. In the 2019 season , the third as head coach of the Buffalo Bills, McDermott reached the play-offs for the second time with a record of 10 wins and 6 losses. Here, too, the Bills failed in the wildcard game, they lost to the Houston Texans 19:22 in overtime. McDermott was nominated for Head Coach of the Year.
