David Johnson (* 16th December 1991 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American American football poker players in the position of running backs . He played college football at the University of Northern Iowa before being selected in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals , for which he was active in the National Football League (NFL) until 2019 . He has been playing for the Houston Texans since 2020 .

Early years

Johnson attended Clinton High School in Clinton , Iowa , where he also played football, basketball and athletics . He played running back and defensive back for the River Kings , setting school records for most touchdowns scored in one season and in one game, and most passes and yards caught in a high school career.

college

From 2010 to 2014 he was a student at the University of Northern Iowa , where he played for the Panthers Football from 2011 . Except in his freshman year, he gained more than 1,000 yards of space each season . As a senior, he achieved 1,553 yards and 17 touchdowns in 287 attempts. In his college career he set school records for total yards and touchdowns as well as space gained by running and passing games.

NFL

2015

In the 2015 NFL Draft , the Arizona Cardinals selected Johnson in the third round as the 86th player and seventh running back of the draft. He signed on 18 May 2015, a four-year contract over 2.9 million US dollars . He started his rookie season as the fourth running back behind Andre Ellington , Chris Johnson and Stepfan Taylor . He made his first appearance at the season opener against the New Orleans Saints when he turned his only trapped pass into a 55-yard touchdown. Due to the injury to Ellington, he received more time in the following games and he succeeded on the second game day against the Chicago Bears his first run touchdown. He played his first game from the start on December 6, 2015 after Chris Johnson was also injured. He got 99 yards and two pass catches for 21 yards and one touchdown in the 27: 3 win against the St. Louis Rams . Two weeks later he set personal bests against the Philadelphia Eagles with 189 yards and 3 touchdowns. Johnson becomes the first rookie to score a run, a caught, and a kickoff-return touchdown in his first two games.

2016

In the season 2016 started Johnson in every regular-season game of the Cardinals and came to a total of 1,239 erlaufene yards and 16 touchdowns and 879 caught yards and four touchdowns.

2017

On the first day of the 2017 season, Johnson injured his  wrist against the Detroit Lions and had to undergo surgery. He was subsequently put on the Injured Reserve List by the Cardinals and missed the rest of the season.

2018

Johnson extended his contract with the Cardinals by 3 more years on September 8, 2018. This contract is worth 39 million US dollars.

2020

As part of a trade, the Cardinals gave Johnson together with a second round pick in exchange for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Houston Texans .
