Kathy Sinnott (born September 29, 1950 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an Irish politician and was a non-party member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009 .

Sinnott studied at St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana and then at University College Dublin in Ireland.

In May 2002, she ran unsuccessfully as a non-party in the elections for the 29th Dáil Éireann . For this she was elected to the European Parliament in June 2004 . As a member of the European Parliament, she belonged to the Independence and Democracy Group and was active within it as a board member. From May 2008 to October of the same year she was briefly co-group chairman, but was then replaced by Hanne Dahl . In the European elections in 2009 , she was unable to defend her seat and left the European Parliament.

2005 she was awarded the St. Mary of the Woods College , the honorary doctorate . Sinnott is the mother of nine children, three daughters and six sons. In September 2009, one of her sons drowned swimming in Georgia . He was a student at Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville .
