Kati Hiekkapelto (born September 8, 1970 in Oulu , Finland ) is a Finnish writer .

Life

Kati Hiekkapelto, who studied special education, lived for a while among the Hungarian minority in Serbia before working as a teacher.

Hiekkapelto made her debut as a writer in 2013 with the detective novel Kolibri . The story of Commissioner Anna Fekete, a Yugoslav Hungarian who has lived in Finland since she was a child, was a hit with both critics and audiences. After a translation by Gabriele Schrey-Vasara , the book of the same name was published on September 15, 2014 by Heyne Verlag in Munich in German. For her second novel, Suojattomat , which was published in German in 2015 under the title Die Schutzlosen , she was awarded the renowned Finnish Crime Prize in 2015.

She lives with her family on a farm on the northern Finnish island of Hailuoto .
