Katharen Ruth Mattera (born Katharen Ruth Feenstra on November 17, 1982 in Grand Rapids , Michigan , United States ) is a former professional basketball player. She last played in the 2009 season for the San Antonio Silver Stars in the Women's National Basketball Association as a center .

Career

college

Katie Mattera played under her maiden name Feenstra as a center until 2005 for the women's basketball team at Liberty University . During that time, she was named Big South Conference Player of the Year three times . Feenstra was the greatest player in the history of Liberty University and the Big South Conference .

Women's National Basketball Association

Feenstra was selected eighth in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun. Shortly afterwards she was transferred to San Antonio for Margo Dydek . After her first season for the Silver Stars, she was elected to the 2005 All-Rookie Team on September 14, 2005. Also in 2006 she played all games for the Silver Stars, but her playing time was reduced.

On February 22, 2007, she was transferred to the Detroit Shock for Ruth Riley . Feenstra only played one season for Detroit, with the Atlanta Dream joining the WNBA in the 2008 season .
