Katja Alves (born July 18, 1961 in Coimbra ) is a Swiss writer .

Life

Katja Alves was born in Coimbra, Portugal. Her father Armando Alves Martins was a Portuguese architect and painter. After her birth, the family moved to Zurich , where the mother came from (whose father was the well-known Romanist Arnald Steiger ). Katja Alves and her older sister grew up in Zurich. Alves did an apprenticeship as a bookseller and worked in this profession for several years after completing her apprenticeship. Then she operated u. a. as a concert agent before starting to work for Radio DRS, first as a documentalist and then as a music editor. She also wrote columns.

In the late 1990s she began to write texts and radio plays for adults and children for the radio, for example "Krokodilopolis", the story of a little crocodile. In addition, she wrote non-fiction books for children and adults. In 2010 her first novel was published, the youth book “Best Friend Wanted”. In addition to her work as an author, Katja Alves worked for NordSüd Verlag from 2006 to 2019 ; from 2009 she was its senior editor. Since 2019 she has been head of projects in the young literature laboratory JuLL in Zurich. Katja Alves' books have been translated into various languages ​​(Bulgarian, Danish, French, Hebrew, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese and Hungarian).
