from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Katrin Juliane Meissner (born 1971 in Berlin ) is a German-Australian climate scientist . She has headed the Climate Change Research Center at the University of New South Wales since 2017 , where she has been a professor since 2018 .

Life

Meissner passed the German Abitur and the Baccalauréat Français at the French Gymnasium in Berlin in 1989 . In 1995 she graduated from the Ecole Centrale de Lille with an engineering degree. In 1996 she graduated from the University of Pierre and Marie Curie with a Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies on the interactions between oceans and the atmosphere. She received her doctorate in physics from the University of Bremen in 1999 . From 2000 to 2009 she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria in Canada. In 2009 she moved to the University of New South Wales as a Senior Lecturer . There she has been director of the Climate Change Research Center since 2017 and has been a professor since 2018.

Meissner has lived in Sydney with her family since 2009. She has two children.

Act

Meissner's research interests include abrupt climate change events as well as threshold values and feedback in the climate system . It relies on climate models of the Earth system in conjunction with paleoclimate records to improve the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms underlying climate variability and climate change .

Awards

Meissner has received several awards, including the Annette Barthelt Prize for Marine Research in 2000 for her doctoral thesis.
