Katzwalchen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Katzwalchen is a district of Palling in the Traunstein district in Upper Bavaria .

location

In contrast to the nearby larger Oberwalchen, Katzwalchen is located on the plain, but like this one neither has a church nor an inn, only a craft business and has no other special features. It only consists of 3 farms, one of which is called "beim Freidl". This farm was the seat of the Freutsmiedl family for a few generations. The village lies in the series of "Walchen-Orte" on the Traun, ie from Oberwalchen, Traunwalchen, Roitwalchen, Litzlwalchen and Walchenberg. The distance from Katzwalchen to Polsing is 3 km and that to Freutsmoos 8 km.

history

The name of the village of Katzwalchen refers to pre-Bavarian times, i.e. to the 6th to 8th centuries, because the name Walchen goes back to the immigration of the Bavarians and describes the Celto-Roman population that was still present at that time. What the first part of the name "Katz", written in earlier centuries Catz or Chatz, means, is unknown. The reference to cats is conceivable, but not mandatory.
