The Kauppenbrücke is a 488 m long bridge on Autobahn 3 .
The structure lies between the Bessenbach and Weibersbrunn motorway junctions . At Waldaschaff, it spans a valley basin at the foot of the Kauppenberg with seven fields at a maximum height of 52 m . As part of the six-lane expansion of the motorway between Aschaffenburg and Würzburg, the bridge was built from 2009 to 2011 and replaced a north-west bridge from 1959.
Bridge from 1959
On the old route in the course of the bridge, the motorway had a clothoid with a radius of curvature decreasing from 2400 m to 730 m. (Location: 49 ° 58 ′ 8 ″ N , 9 ° 18 ′ 8 ″ E ) In the elevation there was a rounded trough, the longitudinal slope changed from 2.8% to 4%, with a cross slope of 3%. The overpass was built with a superstructure for the two two-lane carriageways between 1958 and 1959. The construction costs amounted to 8.5 million DM. The old Kauppenbrücke was demolished in 2013. The contract was worth around 3 million euros. Two pillars remained and are used as climbing towers.
Foundation and substructures
The abutments and pillars have a flat foundation on the existing gneiss , with the 6 × 2 reinforced concrete pillars having a maximum height of 40 m and a center distance of 20 m in the transverse direction. The piers have a hollow cross-section with the minimum dimensions 3.6 m × 3.4 m at the pillar head and a double-sided draw of 1: 100.
superstructure
The superstructure of the composite steel bridge consisted of two solid wall girders spaced 20.0 m apart and 4.5 m high in the longitudinal direction and trussed girders 1.9 m high in the transverse direction every 2.0 m. The welded steel structure was connected to the deck slab in a shear-proof manner. This reinforced concrete slab was usually 18 cm thick and prestressed in both the longitudinal and transverse directions . The anchor point of the continuous girder bridge was the northern abutment.
The span for the six-span structure was 60.0 m in the two peripheral fields, 65.0 m in the first two inner fields and 70.0 m in the two central fields.
execution
The bridge was cantilevered with auxiliary piers made of concrete pipes and later blown up.
Bridge from 2011
As part of the re-routing of the autobahn, which moved about 300 m away from the village of Waldaschaff in a south-easterly direction for noise protection reasons, the old Kauppenbrücke was replaced by a new construction costing 24 million euros between 2009 and 2011.
superstructure
The new 488 m long, 36.6 m wide and up to 52 m high, seven-span bridge is a prestressed concrete girder bridge with two superstructures and a construction height of 5.30 m. The spans are 51.5 m in the two peripheral fields, 65.0 m in the first two inner fields and 80.0 m in the two following fields. The middle field is the widest at 95.0 m.
The pillars, which are up to 47 m high, have an I-shaped solid cross-section.
execution
The bridge was built using the incremental launching method . In order to reduce the span, three reinforced concrete auxiliary piers were erected, which after the construction of the first superstructure were moved to the side for the assembly of the second superstructure and finally blown up. A steel front nose , extended by a pre-stressed concrete segment, was used for shunting across the largest span of 65 m .
