Kazimierz Morawski (philologist)

Kazimierz Morawski (born January 29, 1852 in Poznan , † August 25, 1925 in Krakow ) was a Polish classical philologist , historian and translator.

Morawski studied classical philology in Berlin. He taught from 1877 as a private lecturer and from 1880 as a professor of classical philology at the Jagiellonian University , whose rector he was from 1906 to 1907. In 1918 he became president of the Polish Academy of Sciences . In 1922 he ran unsuccessfully for president in Poland. He published a monograph on the Polish humanist Andrzej Patrycy Nidecki (1884) and a critical edition of Andrzej Krzycki's Latin poems ( Andreae Cricii carmina , 1888) as well as a Historia Universytetu Jagiellońskiego (2 volumes, 1900).
