Monkey punch
Monkey Punch ( Japanese モ ン キ ー ・ パ ン チ , Monkī Panchi ) is the pseudonym of the Japanese comic artist ( Mangaka ) Kazuhiko Katō ( 加藤 一 彦 , Katō Kazuhiko ; born May 26, 1937 in Hamanaka , Hokkaidō ; † April 11, 2019 ). His best-known work is the manga series Lupine III , which was also implemented as an anime .
Inspired by the comics of MAD magazine , Monkey Punch began his career as a cartoonist with a publisher specializing in loan books and magazines. Here he first worked under his pseudonym 加 東 一 彦 , which also means Katō Kazuhiko , but is written with different Kanji . In 1965 he published Playboy Nyūmon ( プ レ ー ボ ー イ 入門 ) under the new pseudonym Eiji Gamuta ( が む た 永 二 , Gamuta Eiji ). A year later he changed his stage name to "Monkey Punch", which he actually only wanted to use temporarily.
Between 1962 and 1997, Monkey Punch drew a total of over 60 different mangas, anime and related spin-offs . He achieved his greatest success with the manga and anime Lupine III , which appeared in the Japanese manga magazine Weekly Manga Action from 1967 . In addition, the 1980 anime Cinderella Boy and Musashi Gundoh ( MUSASHI -GUN 道 - ) from 1997 are among his better-known works.
