Cornelis "Kees" Boeke (born September 29, 1884 in Alkmaar , † July 3, 1966 in Abcoude ) was a Dutch educationalist .

Life

Boeke studied at the University of London . Together with Helene Stöcker and Wilfred Wellock , he founded “Paco” ( Peace in Esperanto ) in Bilthoven in 1921 , later War Resisters' International (WRI). In 1926 he set up the reform school Werkplaats Kindergemeenschap in Bilthoven near Utrecht , which was inspired, among other things, by the ideas of the Quakers , and which he headed until 1954. Three children of Queen Juliana were also taught here at times, including Beatrix , who later became Queen of the Netherlands .

Boeke developed the concept of sociocracy , which is used in Iederwijs schools , among others .
