Kegalle ( Sinhala කෑගල්ල Kǣgalla ; Tamil கேகாலை Kēkālai ) is a city in the Sabaragamuwa Province in Sri Lanka . It is located on Highway A1 ( Kandy Road ) between Colombo and Kandy , about 78 kilometers from Colombo and 40 kilometers from Kandy. Kegalle is the capital of the district of the same name and has around 18,000 inhabitants (as of 2012).
