Keigo Higashino
Keigo Higashino ( Japanese 東 野 圭 吾 , Higashino Keigo ; born February 4, 1958 in Ikuno-ku , Osaka , Japan ) is a popular Japanese crime writer whose works have received several awards and have been made into films.
Life
Keigo Higashino was born on February 4, 1958 in Osaka, Ikuno District , where he grew up. In 1974, in the second year of high school, he first came into contact with the medium of the detective novel when he made Komine Hajime's novel Archimedes wa Te o yogosanai ( ア ル キ メ デ ス は 手 を 汚 さ な い , Arukimedesu wa te o yogosanai , dt. About. "Archimedes" Hands not dirty ”) read. He learned about the Edogawa Rampo Prize, which motivated him to start writing crime novels. His debut work Android wa Keikoku suru ( ア ン ド ロ イ ド は 警告 す る , Andoroido wa keikoku suru , German for "The Android warns") has remained unpublished.
After graduating from school, he spent a year as a ronin and then began to study electrical engineering at the Osaka Prefectural University. There he became captain of the archery club, so his debut work Hōkago ( 放 課後 , dt. "After school") is about archery.
In 1981, after completing his studies, Higashino started working as an engineer at Denso . On the side he continued to write detective novels. In 1983 he applied for the 29th Edogawa Rampo Prize with Ningyō-tachi no Ie (Eng. "House of Dolls"), got through the second preliminary round, but ended up empty. At the time he got married. His wife worked as a part-time teacher at a girls' high school, making him the protagonist Maeshima in Hōkago inspired.
In the following year Higashino got with Makyū ( 魔 球 , dt. "Devilish throw") in the final selection for the 30th Edogawa Rampo Prize, again unsuccessfully. In 1985 he won the 31st Edogawa Rampo Prize, after which he began his career as a writer. He quit and went to Tokyo to work as a full-time writer.
At the beginning his works were rarely published several times and could hardly be described as hits. At many prices he got nothing. This began to change when he with Meitantei no Okite ( 名 探 偵 の 掟 , Eng . "The law of the master detectives") ranked third on the rankings for crime novels Kono Mystery ga sugoi! ( こ の ミ ス テ リ ー が す ご い! , Kono misterī ga sugoi!, Dt. "These detective pieces are great!"). The breakthrough came in 1998 with Himitsu ( 秘密 , dt. "Secret"), which was also made into a film.
From 2009 to 2013 he was chairman of the crime writers' association Mystery Writers of Japan ( 日本 推理 作家協会 , Nihon Suirisakka Kyōkai ).
