Keisha Lance Bottoms (* 18th January 1970 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and the 60th Mayor of Atlanta in the US state of Georgia.

Life

Keisha Lance Bottoms is the daughter of Sylvia Robinson and the R&B musician Major Lance (1939-1994). She has successfully completed Frederick Douglass High School and Florida A&M University . She received her Juris Doctor from the College of Law at Georgia State University .

In 2017 she became the successor of Kasim Reed , elected Mayor of Atlanta after receiving first 26% of the vote and in the subsequent runoff election 821 votes more received than their City Council colleague Mary Norwood.

During the mayoral campaign, Bottoms was investigated for several lump-sum payments to campaign workers totaling over US $ 180,000, the proper reporting of which was doubted. In October 2017, she voluntarily repaid campaign contributions of $ 25,700 received from PRAD Group, an engineering company whose office had previously been raided by the FBI .

On November 4, 2017, she asked the Georgia Attorney General to investigate fake robocalls on her behalf that her campaign said had been laden with racist undertones.

In her role as Mayor of Atlanta she said in response to the immigration policies of US President Trump, Atlanta is a hospitable city will remain open and all welcome.

In June 2019, Bottoms announced that it would support Joe Biden in the Democratic Party's presidential primaries. In March 2020, Politico named her as a possible running mate Joe Bidens. The running mate will become US Vice President if he wins the election .

At the end of April 2020, she criticized that Governor Brian Kemp had ended the lockdown against the corona epidemic in the United States too early. On July 6, 2020, she announced that she had Covid-19 without symptoms .

Keisha Lance Bottoms is married to Derek W. Bottoms. The couple have four adopted children (three boys and one girl).
