Carlos Mata

Carlos Vazquez Mata (born October 18, 1949 Palma de Mallorca , † July 22, 2008 ) was a contemporary Spanish artist . His main focus was animals in modern design.

Carlos Mata was born in Palma de Mallorca in 1949. He studied art at the Escola de Belles Arts de Barcelona and at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris . He then went into business for himself and first took up residence in Spain and 1978–1982 in France. He mainly focused on animal sculptures .

Works (selection)

The works in minimalist design are known worldwide. Some works are in public collections in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, England and the United States.

In total, more than 50 different sculptures by the artist are listed, including numerous horses (with names like Eunice , Erynis , Narssimo ), also just as silhouettes, furthermore bulls (blue and brown; some also with names like Guapo II and Vaca Nina ), Roosters and abstract people.
The size of the works ranges from small and handy to larger-than-life representations. Most of the work is cast in bronze , there are also figures made of iron and glass. In addition to sculptures, Mata also made at least two paintings.
