After the death of his father, he was appointed by Xuthos as his successor, whereupon Xuthos was expelled by the brothers of Kekrops. He married Metiadusa, the daughter of Eupalamos. Kekrops' successor was his son Pandion .
Kekrops is said to have consecrated a wooden Hermes statue in the temple of Athena Polias on the Acropolis in Athens . He was the first to describe Zeus as the highest (Hypatos) of the gods. No living beings could be sacrificed to him. That is why they burned on the altar of the god Pelanoi (a kind of cake).
