The mountain is criss-crossed by a widely branched system of beer cellars leading deep into the Rhätsandstein , which has been driven into the mountain by local brewers since the 16th century and in which the Forchheim breweries store their beer . In the rock cellars there is a constant temperature of six to ten degrees Celsius throughout the year , ideal for storing beer. When there was still no modern cooling technology , the beer reached its maturity in these rock cellars. Today the 10 upper and 14 lower beer cellars are only storage locations. In the local cellars, which were set up at the entrances to the storage cellars and some of which are open all year round, beer and Franconian specialties are on offer. The beer gardens under the shady trees are usually open from May to September.

Annafest

Every year around July 26th, the holiday of St. Anne , the ten-day Forchheimer Annafest takes place there, for which the Forchheim breweries brew special strong beer . During the Annafest there are around 30,000 seats available every day in or near the Forchheim cellars so that visitors can enjoy the strong beer, the diverse culinary delicacies and the rich music program with numerous bands from the region.

Bobby car racing

The Forchheim Bobby Car Race has been held every September on the Kellerberg since 2004 . On the steep and winding asphalt road between the upper and lower cellars, risky men and women aged 18 and over race down in so-called bobby cars . The toy cars must not exceed the following dimensions: total width 350 mm, total length 600 mm, total height 550 mm (including handlebars), weight 5 kg. Only original or soft bikes with Fulda wide tires are permitted. The winning time for the approximately 300 m long race track is usually just over 30 seconds, which corresponds to the speed of an Olympic hundred meter runner.
