The Forchheim Annafest takes place every year around the memorial day of St. Anne on July 26th on the Kellerberg in the Upper Franconian town of Forchheim . During the festival, the Annafest has up to 500,000 visitors. In 2014 the festival was extended by one to eleven days. Since then it has started on the Friday before or on July 26th and ends on the second Monday after. On the Thursday before the official opening, there will be the traditional butcher's dish and a beer tasting of the Annafest beer.

History of the Forchheim Anna Festival

In 1516 a chapel was consecrated to St. Anna in the small town of Unterweilersbach near Forchheim. The Forchheimers went there on a small pilgrimage . On the way back, the pilgrims took a rest in the cellar forest to fortify themselves with the beer stored in the beer cellars there . The relatives of the pilgrims who had stayed at home went to meet them and brought food with them. The beer was poured directly from the storage cellars.

When the Forchheimer Schützenverein moved its main shooting from Schießanger on the Regnitz to the Kellerwald in 1840 , the Annafest was born.

In 2015 the festival had its 175th anniversary with a large parade on the first Sunday of the festival, which fell on the feast day of St. Anne.

The local breweries Hebendanz , Greif , Eichhorn and Neder brew a strong beer especially for this festival , the Annafestbier, which is stored in the beer cellars in the Kellerwald several weeks before the festival begins. For the first time in 2011, the Rittmayer brewery, located in nearby Hallerndorf , brewed a special Annafest beer that was served in the Weiß-Tauben-Keller.

Folk festival

Around 80 showmen offer rides (e.g. ferris wheel ), lucky booths, entertainment, sweets or food. The large rides are on the lowest level, in front of the actual basement forest. On the way to the lower cellars are the first booths of the showmen. Bumper cars and the Ferris wheel are traditionally placed between the lower and upper cellars , before further stalls line the way to the upper cellars. The last showman booths are at the end of the Anna Festival.

In between there are toilets, BRK and ASB stations , ATMs and security guards .

So that families with children can take advantage of a discounted offer, Tuesday and Thursday are family days. Many rides and booths offer their services at reduced prices.

Wednesday is the so-called company day. Most of Forchheim's shops close at 12:00 p.m. and the employees go to the Annafest together.

The cellars open daily from 10:00 a.m., the festival starts at 1:00 p.m. with the opening of the rides, musical entertainment is on Sundays from 11:00 a.m., and on weekdays from 6:00 p.m.

Every year an official Annafest T-shirt appears with an annually changing motif. This will be presented and presented to the public 14 days before the official opening and can be purchased 11 days before the festival.

The city of Forchheim annually issues a beer mug with a special motif for the Annafest in an extremely limited edition of 200 pieces. It is primarily intended for collectors.

For the 175th Annafest a book was published with information, the history and many photos about the Annafest.
