Kelley Eskridge

Kelley Eskridge (born 1960 in Florida ) is an American writer , screenwriter and writing coach.

Life

Eskridge studied at Northwestern University and the University of South Florida , where she received her bachelor's degrees in drama .

In 1988 she attended the Clarion Science Fiction Writers' Workshop , where she met her partner Nicola Griffith . Eskridge has published a novel and several short stories and essays. Her short story And Salome Danced won the Astraea Prize and was nominated for the 1995 James Tiptree, Jr Award. Her short story Alien Jane was a 1995 Nebula Short Story Award finalist . Alien Jane has been adapted for television.

Her first novel Solitaire was published by HarperCollins in 2002. It was a New York Times Notable Book , was selected in Borders Books Original Voices, and was a finalist for the Nebula, Endeavor and the Gaylactic Spectrum Awards . In 2017, the Solitaire- based film OtherLife was released , for which she wrote the script with Gregory Widen and Ben C. Lucas.

Eskridge's first collection of short stories, Dangerous Space , came out in 2007; the eponymous short story Dangerous Space was a 2009 Nebula Award finalist.

Before Eskridge became a full-time writer, screenwriter and writing coach, she worked for Wizards of the Coast, among others . She is the chairman of the board of the Clarion West Writers Workshop. She lives in Seattle with her wife Nicola Griffith .
