Kellie Harrington (born December 11, 1989 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish boxer and world champion of 2018 in the lightweight .
Boxing career
Kellie Harrington is a left sideline and started boxing in 2005. So far, she has trained in the Dublin boxing clubs Glasnevin and St. Mary’s . She is supervised by Noel Burke, Zauri Antia and Dmitri Dmitruk. By the end of November 2018 she had played over 70 fights and was Irish champion in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018.
At the EU Championships in England in 2008 , in Poland in 2011 and in Hungary in 2013 , she reached the quarter-finals and also took part in the 2011 European Championships in the Netherlands , where she was knocked out 9: 9+ in the round of 16 against Martina Schmoranzová.
At the World Championships in 2016 in Kazakhstan , she fought her way to the final in the light welterweight (-64 kg) against Austeja Auciote, Cindy Rogge, Sarina Tsolojewa and Sara Kali, where she lost to Yang Wenlu and won the silver medal. At the 2016 European Championships in Bulgaria , she was eliminated in the round of 16 against Alexandra Ordina .
After winning the silver medal in the lightweight (-60 kg) at the 2017 EU Championships in Italy and a bronze medal at the 2018 European Championships in Bulgaria, she was also used at the 2018 World Championships in India . There she won the gold medal in the lightweight with victories against Troy Garton, Sarita Laishram, Caroline Veyre, Karina Ibragimowa and Supaporn Srisondee. She became only the second Irish amateur world champion in boxing after Katie Taylor and also the first to reach World Cup finals in two weight classes. None of her male colleagues had done this before either.
She ended the 2019 European Games in Belarus by winning the silver medal after losing to Mira Potkonen in the final.
