Kelly Berthelsen

Kelly Efraim Johannes Berthelsen (* 1967 in Ammassivik ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Inuit Ataqatigiit ), writer , poet and translator .

Life

Kelly Berthelsen took part in the 2013 general election . He only reached the fifth place of the Inuit Ataqatigiit and thus missed a seat in parliament. In the local elections in the same year he was elected to the council of Kujalleq municipality . A year later he took part in the 2014 general election . This time he reached the fourth place of the party. In September 2016 he moved to Inatsisartut and stayed there until the end of the legislative period. In the 2018 election , he clearly missed a parliamentary seat. He did not participate in the 2017 local elections.

Kelly Berthelsen is best known as a writer and poet. His collection of poems Tarningup Ilua was translated into French in 2015 ( Je ferme les yeux pour couvrir l'obscurité ). The book was also qualified for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 2003 . Like many of his colleagues in Greenlandic literature of his generation, his works express the desire for independence. He also works as a translator into Greenlandic.
