Kellylee Evans (* 1975 in Toronto ) is a Canadian soul and jazz singer and songwriter .

Live and act

Kellylee Evans, daughter of Jamaican immigrants, performed on talent shows as a teenager and sang in youth choirs. At the beginning of her career, she made a joint appearance with Lonnie Plaxico (2001) while studying law at Carleton University . From 2002 she wrote her own songs; in 2004 she won second place at the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocals Competition . In 2005 her first album Fight or Flight was created , on which u. a. the pianist George Colligan participated and for whom she wrote her own songs. The album was nominated for the Gemini and the Juno Awards. The singer also received the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for Best Singer. Four years later their second album The Good Girl was released. Her third album Nina , created for the French label Loin Music with sidemen like François Moutin and André Ceccarelli , was a tribute to Nina Simone . In 2011 this album was also nominated for the Juno Award .

Evans has appeared regularly on Canadian television and radio since 2005, including a. in an episode of the sitcom Getting Along Famously .
