Location of Kelmond in the municipality of Beek |
Kelmond is a district of the village Geverik in the municipality of Beek in Limburg , Netherlands . The village consists of 70 farms and houses with around 150 residents (as of January 1, 2017).
The name Kelmonds comes from the 15th century when it was still Calmont , which is derived from the Latin name calvum montem and means "the bald mountain".
In the fields around Kelmond a large number of small streams arise, which flow to Beek and have given the community its name.
Sightseeing
One of the few remaining windmills in Limburg is located near Kelmond . It stands on the N 584 between Beek and Schimmert in an open field above Kelmond. The mill is made entirely of wood and is still functional. It can also be visited. In 1971 the mill was acquired by the municipality of Beek.
Another attraction of the village is the small neo-Gothic brick chapel, which is dedicated to Maria and stands at a fork in the Kelmonderhofweg . There are also numerous old courtyards, such as the Kelmonderhof, whose gate wing was built in 1640 .
