Kelsey Mitchell (born November 26, 1993 in Brandon ) is a Canadian track cyclist who specializes in short-term disciplines. On September 5, 2019, she set a new world record over 200 meters with 10.154 seconds.

Athletic career

Kelsey Mitchell was active in several sports, her favorite football . It wasn't until 2017, at the age of 23, that she raced a velodrome for the first time after being tested at the RBC Training Ground , a Canadian program that tests young athletes on their skills. In February of the following year, she contested her first track race. In September 2018, she started at the Canadian track championships and immediately won three medals: in the sprint , she won the national title, in the keirin and in the 500-meter time trial , she finished third.

Mitchell made her first international start in January 2019 and finished sixth in the sprint at the Track World Cup in Hong Kong . In August of that year she started at the Pan-American Games in Lima , won the sprint and came second in the team sprint with Amelia Walsh . A few weeks later she won gold in the sprint and team sprint (with Lauriane Genest ) at the Pan-American track championships ; in the Keirin she won bronze. In qualifying for the sprint competition, she set a new world record over 200 meters with 10.154 seconds , which the German Kristina Vogel had held since 2013 .
