Location of Kemnat in Bavaria |
Kemnat is a district in the municipality of Burtenbach in the Swabian district of Günzburg .
location
The village is located on an eastern slope in the Mindeltal , above which the Catholic St. George's Church rises. It is crossed by the district roads GZ 1 and GZ 25.
history
The place was documented as "Cheminata" in 1184 for the first time. The name refers to Kemenate , a heated living room. The field name "Burgberg" on the northern edge of Kemnat gives reason to assume that there was once a castle there.
In the 12th century, the nobles of Haunsperg ruled over Kemnat. The manorial power then passed to the nearby Ursberg monastery . Kemnat sold this monastery in 1471 to Franz Ridler, an Augsburg merchant, for 2123 guilders . He sold it a year later to the Wettenhausen monastery for 3,350 guilders . Around 1720 the place had 83 properties.
After the Second World War , Kemnat was occupied by French troops. They shot a miller and burned down the brickworks and five properties.
On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into Burtenbach as part of the municipal reform .
Buildings
In Kemnat is the St. George's Church, consecrated in 1233, which towers over the town.
