Ken Akamatsu ( Japanese 赤松 健 , Akamatsu Ken ; born July 5, 1968 in Higashikurume , Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese manga artist who became internationally known mainly through Love Hina . Many of his works contain elements of the so-called fan service , which are not absolutely necessary depictions of scantily clad girls for the plot. A recurring motif is that of a boy who is surrounded by numerous attractive girls ( harem genre ).

Life

As a teenager, Ken Akamatsu failed the Tokyo University entrance exam and instead signed up to study film. He may have taken up this experience for the character Keitaro Urashima from Love Hina . He then attended Chūō University , studied literature and turned to drawing. He published his debut work as a professional mangaka in 1993 with Hito Natsu no Kids Game and was awarded the 50th Newcomer Prize by the Japanese manga magazine Shōnen Magazine . After his second manga AI Love You , he celebrated his greatest success in 1997 with Love Hina . Love Hina has been translated into numerous languages, awarded the Kodansha Manga Prize and implemented as an anime . In 2002 he designed the character design for the anime Mao-chan and began in 2003, after graduating from Love Hina , with Magister Negi Magi , which has already been successfully implemented in an anime series.

Up to Magister Negi Magi he led the Dōjin Circle Level-X .

Ken Akamatsu has been married to the singer Kanon Akamatsu ( 赤松 佳音 ) since July 2002 and has one daughter.

On November 26th 2010 Ken Akamatsu started the website J-Comi on the no longer published manga should be published free of charge and DRM- free. The offer, which was in beta status at that time, started with all 14 volumes of Love Hina .

In 2013 his new series UQ Holder started! as successor to Magister Negi Magi .
