Ken Sasaki (pianist)

Ken Sasaki (born September 14, 1943 in Sendai , † August 10, 1991 in Paris ) was a Japanese pianist .

Sasaki had piano lessons from early childhood, studied at the Tokyo Art School and made his debut as a pianist in 1966. A grant from the Polish Ministry of Culture enabled him to study at the Warsaw Conservatory with Zbigniew Drzewiecki and Danuta Lewandowska . As a scholarship holder of the French government, he completed his training with Vlado Perlemuter in 1969 .

Sasaki has performed as a concert pianist in Poland, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. In 1972 the impresario Wilfred van Wyck made his English debut at London's Wigmore Hall . In 1979 he went on a concert tour through the United States, which culminated in a concert in New York. He also gave concerts in Japan regularly, often accompanied by European music ensembles. The focus of his repertoire was on the piano works of Franz Liszt , Maurice Ravel and Fryderyk Chopin . Sasaki resided in Paris for the last two decades of his life and is buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
