Kenneth Dyba

Ken (neth) Dyba (born May 9, 1945 in Nordegg , Alberta ) is a Canadian writer and theater director.

Dyba studied English literature and theater studies at the University of British Columbia . He has served as Artistic Director at the MAC 14 Theater and the Pleiades Theater in Calgary and has given dramawriting workshops at the University of Calgary , the University of Victoria and the Banff Center . He has lived in Toronto since the early 1980s.

His play The Sun Runner premiered here in 1983 at the Toronto Free Theater . The world premiere of his music drama Lilly, Alta took place in 1986 at the Blyth Festival . The play was performed again in 2001 at the University of Lethbridge under the direction of Ches Skinner and in 2005 at the University of Regina under the direction of Janet Amos . In 2002 he initiated the Snail Project , a collection of all Canadian dramatic works.

Dyba also wrote several novels, including Sister Roxy (1973), Lucifer and Lucinda (1977) and The Long and Glorious Weekend of Raymond and Bingo Oblongh (1983). In 1986 he published a biography of the Calgary-based theater founder and director Betty Mitchell .
