Ken Tovo

Kenneth "Ken" Tovo (born March 21, 1961 ) is a Lieutenant General in the US Army . Before his retirement from the military, he was most recently in command of the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).

Life

Tovo enlisted in the Army in 1983 and was assigned to the 508th Infantry Regiment in 1984 . 1985 to 1987 he moved to the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment . Between 1987 and 1989 he received training to serve in the Special Forces (USASFC). He joined the 10th Special Forces Group in 1989 and was deployed in Turkey during the Second Gulf War ( Operation Desert Storm and Operation Provide Comfort ). During the 1990s his unit was used on missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina . Tovo was in command of the 3rd Battalion of the 10th Special Forces Group from 2001 to 2003 and was part of Operation Viking Hammer . After serving briefly on the staff of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and completing his Masters in Strategic Studies at the United States Army War College , he was appointed Commander of the 10th Special Forces Group. In 2008 he was named deputy commander of the United States Special Operations Command Europe .

On July 15, 2008, he was appointed Brigadier General and was subsequently appointed Supporting Commander of the 1st Armored Division in April 2009 . On May 9, 2011 he became the commander of the United States Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) and was thus responsible for many operations of the special forces in the area of ​​the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). During this time he led, among other things, one of the largest maneuvers in the field of CENTCOM, Eager Lion 12 . He was appointed Major General on July 27, 2011. Simultaneously with his appointment as Lieutenant General in January 2013, he became Commander of the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan and the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan . On July 18, 2013, he was appointed Deputy Commander of SOUTHCOM . Tovo moved to USASOC as commander on July 1, 2015, which he led until June 8, 2018.
