Kenneth H. Cooper
Kenneth H. Cooper (* 4. March 1931 in Oklahoma City , US -Bundesstaat Oklahoma ) is an American sports physician and former Major of the US Air Force , who was involved in the 1970s in the United States instrumental in the dissemination of preventive health Sports .
Cooper holds a PhD in medicine and is best known as the author of the popular science book Exercise Training (1968; original title: Aerobics ). His training methods employ an easy-to-use scoring system that Cooper developed during his career in the US Air Force.
The Cooper test was developed along with this training method. This allows you to determine your fitness level using a 12-minute run. The test is also used to estimate maximum oxygen uptake .
Cooper is also the developer of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas , which opened in 1970. Meanwhile, a number of other facilities belong to the company, which employs a total of 650 people.
Kenneth Cooper has authored 19 books, translated into 41 languages and Braille, for a total of 30 million copies.
The turn to fitness began at Cooper when he noticed from his own experience at the age of 29 a decline in performance. He started long-distance running and a year later took part in the Boston Marathon . In the meantime (as of autumn 2007) he has covered 61,000 kilometers according to his training diaries.
Kenneth Cooper is married with a daughter and a son.
