Kenneth Showell

Kenneth L. Showell (born 1939 in Huron , South Dakota , † 1997 ) was an American painter. He is known for his abstract paintings in the style of lyric abstraction .

life and work

Kenneth Showell studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and moved to New York in 1965 . In 1967 and 1969 he exhibited in two group shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art . In 1969 he showed his work in a solo exhibition at the David Whitney Gallery in New York. From 2006 to 2008 his painting was shown in the exhibition "High Times, Hard Times: New York Painting 1967–1975" in the Neue Galerie Graz and in the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe.

His works are represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
